Aurora woman killed in crash with two semi trucks
An Aurora woman was killed and five people were injured late last month in a crash that involved two semi trucks in Wisconsin. The 84-year-old woman was a passenger in a small sedan when the crash occurred on the morning of Aug. 25 in Caledonia, Wisconsin.
The incident is still under investigation, but authorities believe the car had just exited Interstate 39 going northbound at the intersection of Highway 33 when it was struck by a semi truck traveling eastbound. The collision sent both the sedan and the semi into the westbound lane, where they were struck by another semi.
The Aurora woman died at the scene. The driver of the car she was riding in was airlifted in a Med Flight helicopter to the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison. Both truck drivers and their passengers were taken to a hospital in nearby Portage.
Multiple first responders from the area arrived at the scene. At least one person had to be extricated from a vehicle. It wasn’t made public who or specifically how many people required extrication by the Portage Fire Department.
Authorities haven’t announced which, if any, drivers are being cited for their role in the tragic collision. However, in crashes that involve semitrucks and smaller vehicles like cars, the people in those smaller vehicles are at a significant disadvantage and risk of serious and fatal injury.
If you or a loved one has been the victim of a truck accident that was caused by the truck driver, it’s essential to find out what individuals and entities you can hold legally responsible. You have a right to seek compensation for medical bills, lost wages and other expenses as well as damages. While this can’t undo what happened, it can help you and your family move forward.
