Three vehicles were recently involved in a crash in Illinois, including one that belonged to the Illinois State Police Department. The wreck happened out on I-55, in the northbound lanes.
Per reports, the police car had its emergency lights going, and it was parked on the shoulder of the road. A second car came up behind the police car and went out of control. It then slammed into the back of the parked vehicle and spun into traffic, where it was hit by another car.
The incident does not appear to have injured the driver of the third car, but both the police officer and the driver of the car that allegedly caused the wreck wound up in the hospital. More emergency vehicles responded and closed down the highway for roughly an hour. Police report that they’re still investigating to see what happened, and who is at fault.
Since the start of 2019, a total of 11 ISP police cars have been involved in accidents.
Pictures from the scene do offer some clues. The roads are covered in a thin skim of snow, and you can see tracks swerving all over the road. The police SUV, with a rear window smashed out, sits in a snow-covered median. Beyond it, the two other cars are still on the road, and one has spun sideways.
Car accident injuries are always a risk, especially for those who drive frequently or even do so as part of their employment. If you get hurt because of someone else’s negligent actions, you may be able to seek compensation for your medical bills.
