Tips to fight off post-accident shock

You’re in a car accident, and you’re in shock afterward. Certainly, the mental component can be debilitating, but there are also the physical issues to deal with. These include things like a surge in adrenaline and cortisol, rising blood pressure, an increasing heart rate and slight shaking.

So, how do you fight off this post-accident shock? In some cases, medical treatment is needed. It’s very important to get the proper treatment as quickly as you can. However, some things you can do yourself include:

  • Get your nutrients. For instance, calcium and magnesium can work together as a mild muscle relaxer.
  • Concentrate on your breathing. If it gets out of control, you could hyperventilate. Focus on slow, controlled breaths.
  • Get as much sleep as you can. It may be hard, but sleep really helps your body recover from almost anything.
  • Get exercise if you’re not injured. For instance, go for a bike ride or take a jog. This can help to burn off some of that nervous energy and it helps you stop thinking about the crash.

Again, physical shock sometimes requires quick medical care. Warning signs to watch out for include:

  • Skin that feels clammy.
  • Trouble communicating.
  • Falling blood pressure.
  • A rapid heartbeat.

If you experience these symptoms, the tips above may not be enough. Do not be afraid to get medical treatment, as doctors can help you find stability and get you on the path to recovery.

Naturally, going that route means you could have some unexpected medical bills, which is why it’s important to know if you can seek financial compensation.
