As the weather warms up, more and more people will head out onto the roads on their motorcycles. There is a lot to be said for feeling the wind against your body and having the freedom of movement that a motorcycle provides. However, they are also less protective. As a result, those who are involved in crashes can end up with serious injuries that they just cannot recover from.
In a crash reported on Mar. 23, a woman in Illinois was charged for her role in a fatal motorcycle crash in Hall County. According to the news, the 66-year-old woman was driving an SUV and turning onto the I-985 entrance ramp when the crash happened.
The woman allegedly failed to yield as she turned left onto the ramp, cutting off the path of a 57-year-old man riding his Harley Davidson. The man did not survive the collision, later passing away at the hospital.
This kind of collision is one of the more common types to lead to injuries and fatalities. When a vehicle does not yield and cuts off the path of another vehicle, there is rarely enough time for the other driver to react. Even with the chance to slow down, most vehicles will not be able to avoid a collision, leading to a serious side-impact collision.
As the seasons change, more people will be put into situations like this. It’s important that you and your loved ones are cautious and prepare to wait for motorcyclists to pass before turning. If you’re riding a motorcycle, always be aware of drivers ahead of you who may not see you, so you can slow down or evade a collision.
