A 12-year-old boy was tragically killed on Christmas Eve when the vehicle he was riding in was involved in a serious accident. The Illinois State Police responded, and they announced that a dog had also been killed in the wreck.
The driver, a 31-year-old woman, survived the crash. Her relationship to the 12-year-old boy was not reported.
The woman was driving down Interstate 80 in a Ford Escape when she lost control on a bridge deck. Her SUV spun around in the road, and then it was hit by a semi.
It is unclear where the dog was in the vehicle, but the police did say that the boy who was killed was sitting in the back seat. It appears that he passed away at the scene, before he could be taken to a local hospital. The emergency crews brought the woman to a medical center, although the exact nature of her injuries was not reported. The truck driver did not get hurt in the crash.
Accidents like this are common during winter driving. As roads are covered in ice and snow, it’s easy for drivers to suddenly lose control in a split second. This is especially true on bridges, which do ice over before the road since they are exposed structures.
When an accident takes a life, the family may not feel that financial compensation can ever make up for the loss, and that’s true. However, they also are realistically facing medical bills, funeral costs and much more. For these reasons, it’s still important to look into all legal options.
